Right Hemisphere Left Hemisphere Consciousness the Unconscious Brain and Mind eBook R Joseph

The book is far more than I had imagined, and although its emphasis is mainly on dealing with brain damage, it is wonderfully organized and presented. It is too much for me to attempt reading through, but I intend to use it as a reference book, especially as I reread "The Right Brain and the Unconscious" by the same author. In addition to that, I have already started reading it by just leafing through and finding interesting subjects. The illustrations are excellent and profuse, showing in detail all the bulbs and protuberances of the brain, and describing their functions and interrelations with other parts. It's the sort of book you can read in any order. I love it.

Right Hemisphere Left Hemisphere Consciousness the Unconscious Brain and Mind eBook R Joseph Reviews

Rhawn Joseph is a joke in the scientific community. He has published books in the astrobiology field and cosmology and neurobiology, but has degree in neuropsychology. This is the worst book that could have been published for the neurosciences. Do not buy.
In the interest of full disclosure this review is based on the sample sent to my kindle. This book makes a feeble attempt at seeming scholarly. I have never read a book that is so overly riddled with references to other material. This book does this in the most peculiar fashion. Instead of footnotes, it places the referenced material in parenthesis within the content of the book. Needless to say this aberrant method makes it impossible to have a smooth flow to a sentence because each sentence is interrupted with a parenthesis or parentheses each containing a lengthy list of names and dates. I got the feeling I was caught in the book form of a vapid person whose claim to fame is name dropping people he has never met. If the sample is a true representation of the entire body of work, avoid this horror masquerading as a book like the plague. It is neither scholarly nor informative.
To the first reviewer

The method of using parentheses for references rather than footnotes is not "aberrant," rather it is among the most accepted and respected methods in science. It was developed by the American Psychological Association and is used throughout many professional journals and books. As a neuroscientist, I will also tell you that this author is well versed in functional neuroanatomy no matter whether I agree or disagree with some of his more "fringe" perspectives and publications.
This is reminiscent of my college research paper, it even has about 40% citations to fill in space. If you are familiar with the brain basics, its contents, and responsibilities then this book really doesn't have anything to offer. It also felt condescending to an extent as a result of the language the author used. The end result is a paper that reads about as unnatural as you can get. Side note doesn't do free shipping returns on books- at least not this one. All in all I'm out 4 bucks and a trip to the post office.
This is an exceptional text book for advanced undergraduates and graduate students.
Very good if you're going to medical school.
I liked the book. As mentioned by another reviewer the references in the end of many sentences makes it hard to read and is sloppy. Apart from that, I feel that the book was a bit short. Nevertheless it was enjoyable at some parts where one has some “aha” moments. In other parts where it matches diseases and symptoms or brain areas I didn’t see any real value for me.
